Tim and his friends were so excited as they got off the bus at the fire station. The big red fire truck was shiny and bright, and the kids couldn’t stop looking at it. “Wow!” said Tim, pointing to a tall ladder leaning against the truck. “Everything here is so cool!” The firefighters smiled and waved.
One of the firefighters knelt down and smiled. “Do you want to be a firefighter for the day?” Tim's eyes got big. “Me? Really?” The firefighter handed Tim a special jacket and helped him put it on. “Now you’re part of the team!”
Suddenly, a loud bell rang—DING, DING, DING! “That’s a call!” said the firefighter. “Let’s go!” Tim climbed into the big red fire truck, feeling the engine rumble as they drove off with the siren going, “WEE-OO, WEE-OO!” “What happened?” asked Tim. “A cat is stuck in a tree!”
When they got there, a little orange kitty was meowing from a high branch. “It’s okay, kitty! We’re here to help!” said Tim. The firefighter helped Tim climb the ladder. Carefully, Tim reached out and picked up the scared kitty. “You’re safe now!” said Tim, giving the cat a gentle hug.
Back at the station, the alarm rang again. “Another call!” said the firefighter. This time, water was spraying everywhere from a broken fire hydrant. “Oh no! Look at all that water!” said Tim. The fire truck zoomed off to fix it.
The firefighter gave Tim a big wrench. “You can do it!” said the firefighter. Tim twisted and twisted until the hydrant stopped spraying. “I did it!” said Tim. The kids nearby clapped and jumped in the leftover puddles, laughing and splashing.
Later, the team saw smoke coming from a backyard BBQ. “We’d better help!” said the firefighter. Tim helped unroll the hose, and the firefighter sprayed water to cool down the grill. “Thanks for helping!” said a neighbor, smiling at Tim.
Once the grill was safe, the neighbors brought out snacks for everyone. “Have some watermelon!” said one of them, handing Tim a big slice. “Yum!” said Tim, taking a juicy bite. “You’re a real hero!” the neighbors said, and Tim felt proud.
When they got back to the station, the fire chief smiled at Tim. “You were such a great helper today. We want to make you an honorary firefighter!” The chief gave Tim a shiny badge. Everyone clapped and cheered, and Tim beamed with happiness.
That night, Tim told his parents all about the day. “And look at my badge!” Tim said proudly. After brushing his teeth and climbing into bed, Tim held the badge close. “Someday, I’ll be a firefighter for real,” Tim thought as he drifted off to sleep.
